Design and Build

Made from plastic, the 9 5G weighs a comfortable 191g with a slim 8.5mm thickness. Ergonomics are decent thanks to the curved edges, though build quality isn’t the most premium.

It’s available in Meteor Black and Stargaze White colors with an understated look. Button placement is convenient with the side-mounted fingerprint reader doubling as a power key.

Display

Upfront is a 6.6-inch LCD screen with FHD+ resolution and a fast 120Hz refresh rate. Colours appear reasonably vivid while a maximum brightness of 600nits ensures good visibility outdoors.

The 20:9 aspect ratio is great for widescreen media. At over 84% screen-to-body ratio, the front is almost all display too. It offers a smooth viewing experience overall.

Hardware and Performance

Powering the 9 5G is the Snapdragon 695 5G Mobile Platform with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 619 GPU. For basic day-to-day tasks, performance is speedy and stutter-free.

The 5000mAh battery paired with Qualcomm’s efficient 695 5G chip delivers over a day of moderate usage comfortably. At 18W, full charging takes around 2 hours which is acceptable.

Stand-by time is also very good averaging 2-3 days between charges with light usage. The included charger complements the phone well.

Verdict

Priced around 190 euros, the Realme 9 5G offers decent all-round specifications and features at a competitive cost point. Reliable daily performance combined with 5G support makes it a sensible option.

Build quality and low-light photography could be improved. But for the price, it succeeds adequately as a capable 5G companion for average users on a budget.
